Learn how to use campaign-specific merge fields to simplify and customize your email outreach

Updated this week

Campaign-specific merge fields are dynamic placeholders in emails that automatically populate with influencer-specific details, such as their application link, draft submission portal, or affiliate link. These fields personalize communication, making it more engaging and relevant.

At Upfluence, there are two types of merge fields available when creating emails:

  1. Merge fields for influencer outreach personalization

  2. Merge fields for sending campaign-related information (covered in this guide)

⚠️ Note: The merge fields in this guide only work within a Campaign and are automatically generated for each added influencer.

1. Types of Campaign specific merge fields

Upfluence offers six types of campaign-specific merge fields:

  1. {{application_link}}

    • Purpose: Directs influencers to their personalized application form.

    • Where it’s used: The Application form email.

    • How it appears: Hyperlinked to "HERE" in the default template.

  2. {{composition_link}}

    • Purpose: Provides access to the draft upload portal.

    • Where it’s used: The Drafting email.

    • How it appears: Hyperlinked to "HERE" in the default template.

  3. {{publication_link}}

    • Purpose: Redirects influencers to their publication instructions.

    • Where it’s used: The Publishing notification email.

    • How it appears: Hyperlinked to "publication instructions" in the default template.

  4. {{fixed_payment_link}}

  5. {{promo_code}}

    • Purpose: Displays each creator's unique discount code (for integrated stores).

    • Where it’s used: Any email mentioning influencer discount codes.

      ⚠️ Note: Merge fields only preview correctly if influencers have already been added to your Campaign.

  6. {{affiliate_link}}

    • Purpose: Shows their unique affiliate link (Available for Shopify, AST, and Amazon users).

    • Where it’s used: Any email mentioning affiliate sales tracking.

      ⚠️ Note: Merge fields only preview correctly if influencers have already been added to your Campaign.

2. How to add Campaign-specific merge fields to your emails

There are three ways to insert merge fields in your email templates:

  1. Use the merge field box

    • Located on the right side of the email editor, under "Discount Offer" and "Campaign" sections.

  2. Use linking bubbles

    • Found at the bottom of the email content editor for easy selection.

  3. Type {{ directly in the email body

    • A list of available merge fields will appear—just choose the one you need.

Once added, the merge field will auto-populate with influencer-specific details when emails are sent.

3. Best practices for using Campaign-specific merge fields

  1. Insert merge fields as hyperlinks

    For a professional and seamless experience:

    1. Highlight the text (e.g., "Click Here") in the email editor.

    2. Click "Insert Link" and add the appropriate merge field (e.g., {{application_link}}).

    3. Click "Save" to confirm.

  2. Verify merge fields before sending

    Before sending your campaign emails:

    • Test hyperlinks – Click on "HERE" in the editor to ensure the correct merge field is inserted.

      • Note: Avoid manually copying and pasting "HERE" from the template.

    • Avoid manual pasting – Copying & pasting "HERE" can cause errors if the hyperlink is missing or incorrect.
