How to preview and test your emails before sending

Use preview mode and sample emails to catch issues and perfect your outreach

Updated today

Before sending your email to influencers, it’s always a good idea to test how it looks. Preview Mode helps you see exactly what each influencer will receive, and sending a sample email lets you catch any formatting or personalization issues in your own inbox first.

1. Preview your email content

Preview Mode shows how your email will appear for each influencer by replacing merge fields with actual profile data. It’s the best way to catch missing fields or personalisation errors.

To enable Preview Mode:

  1. Open the email editor.

  2. Toggle on Preview in the bottom-left corner.

You'll see your email with real influencer data and color-coded highlights:

  • Green: Data is available

  • Yellow: Data is missing but a fallback value is set

  • Red : Data is missing and no fallback is set

To check specific influencers:

  1. Use the recipient dropdown menu to preview emails for different influencers.

  2. Icons next to influencer names will flag profiles with missing data.

💡 Tip: You can edit an influencer's merge fields directly in preview mode:

  1. Turn on Preview Mode.

  2. Use the recipient dropdown to find influencers with missing fields.

  3. Click on the red merge field, then type in the correct value.

For bulk edits, check out our guide on how to manage merge fields.

2. Send a sample email to yourself

A sample email gives you a real-world look at your message before it goes out.

Option 1: Send a sample email under preview mode (recommended)

  1. Activate preview mode by toggling it on.

  2. (Optional) Open the recipient dropdown and select a specific influencer for testing.

  3. Click "Send sample email".

  4. You’ll receive a sample email populated with that influencer’s data.

📌 Important: Sample emails are always sent via Upfluence’s mailing provider, even if you've integrated Gmail or Outlook.

Option 2: Send a sample email from the editor

  1. Open the Template editor.

  2. Click the dropdown next to the "Send email" button (bottom right).

  3. Select "Send sample email".

  4. You’ll receive an email with dummy data in place of influencer information.

Note: If your email contains campaign-specific links (e.g., application links), they won’t work in the sample email since no real influencer is linked to it.

Why might my sample email go to spam?

Your sample email may be marked as spam due to your company’s security settings. If the sender's first/last name matches someone in your company, it could trigger a security alarm. Check your spam folder if you don’t see the sample email in your inbox.

Frequently asked questions

1. Where do I receive my sample email?

Your sample email is sent to the inbox associated with your Upfluence login.

2. Why is it sent from an Upfluence address?

Sample emails always come from @software.upfluence.co, even if you’ve selected a different sender in your settings.

If you want to test your full setup with real data, try adding your brand’s social media profile to Upfluence as an influencer, include your email in the profile, and send a test email to that account.

3. Why don’t Campaign-specific links work in the sample email?

If you used Option 2 (editor method), those links are intentionally inactive to avoid confusion. Don’t worry — they’ll work properly in actual influencer emails.
