Learn how to use campaign-specific merge fields to simplify and customize your email outreach

Updated over a month ago

Merge fields are dynamic elements in emails that automatically populate with information from an influencer's profile, such as their name, location, or social media handle. This powerful feature allows you to personalize your messages, making them more engaging and relevant to each recipient.

At Upfluence, there are two types of merge fields available when creating emails:

1️⃣ Merge fields for influencer outreach personalization

2️⃣ Merge fields for sending campaign-related information (covered in this article)

For more details on the first type, check out our guide: How to personalize emails using merge fields and fallback values

Note: The merge fields discussed here only work within a Campaign and are automatically generated for each influencer included.

I. Types of Campaign Specific Merge Fields

In your campaign, you can send different customizable emails to influencers depending on the campaign type. You have up to six merge fields to use:

1. {{application_link}}

This merge field generates a unique link for each influencer, which redirects them to their personalized Application form, where they can:

  1. View and select compensation products (if applicable)

  2. Provide their shipping address (if applicable)

  3. Accept or counter the financial offer (if applicable)

  4. Review the campaign brief

  5. Accept or decline the collaboration

If you use the the default mailing template for the Application form step, the {{application_link}} is hyperlinked to the word "HERE" in the default template.

2. {{composition_link}}

This merge field generates a unique link for each influencer, which redirects them to their personalized draft upload portal, where they can:

  1. Upload their content (photos, YouTube videos, etc.) for your approval

  2. Review the campaign brief as a reminder of what you are expecting from them.

If you use the the default mailing template for the Drafting step, the {{composition_link}} is hyperlinked to the word "HERE" in the default template.

3. {{publication_link}}:

This merge field generates a unique link for each influencer, which redirects them to their personalized publication instructions page, where they can:

  1. Find their own tracking links to monitor clicks (optional, not commonly used if you already are using 3 πŸ‘‡)

  2. Retrieve their unique discount codes and affiliate links if tracking sales through Upfluence

If you use the the default mailing template for the Publishing/Notify influencer step, the {{publication_link}} is hyperlinked to the word "publication instructions" in the default template.

4. {{fixed_payment_link}}:

This merge field generates a unique link for each influencer, which redirects them to their Upfluence creator space, where they can:

  1. Check and claim their payment

  2. Submit necessary documents (e.g., invoices, tax forms) for you to process payments based on your payment settings.

Here's an article we share with creators to guide them through the payment process: Creators: How to submit my payment request

If you use the the default mailing template for the Payment/Send payment request step, the {{fixed_payment_link}} is hyperlinked to the word "HERE" in the default template.

5. {{promo_code}}

This merge field is specifically for users who have integrated Upfluence with Shopify, WooCommerce, BigCommerce, or Magento.

It automatically pulls the unique discount code generated for each influencer, based on the Tracking plan you created and linked to the Campaign. When influencers receive the email, this merge field displays their personalized discount code.

Note: The preview mode in the gif can only be used while there's already influencers added to your Campaign.

6. {{affiliate_link}}

This merge field is specifically for users who have integrated Upfluence with Shopify, AST, or Amazon.

It pulls the unique affiliate link for each influencer. Like the promo code mentioned above, the affiliate link is generated based on the tracking plan linked to your campaign.

Note: The preview mode in the gif can only be used while there's already influencers added to your Campaign dashboard.

II. How to Add Campaign Specific Merge Fields to Your Emails

You can easily add merge fields to your email content by following one of these methods:

Option 1: Use the merge field box

Located on the right side of the email editor, under "Discount Offer" and "Workflow."

Option 2: Use the linking bubbles

Locate at the bottom of the email content editor πŸ‘‡.

Option 3: Type {{ directly in the email body

  1. A list of available merge fields will display, allowing you to choose the right one for your content.

  2. After selecting the appropriate merge field, it will populate in your email content, personalizing the message for each influencer.

III. Best Practices for Using Campaign Specific Merge Fields

1. Inserting Merge Fields as Hyperlinks

This makes your email look more professional and makes it easier for creators to access your pages:

  1. Navigate to your Campaign.

  2. Click on the Email Flows tab and select View and Edit.

  3. In the template editor, highlight the text where you want to insert the campaign specific merge fields.

  4. Click on the Insert Link option.

  5. In the pop-up window, enter or paste the desired campaign specific merge fields into the link URL section.

  6. Click Save to confirm your changes.

2. Checking the Campaign Specific Merge Fields Before Sending

Before sending your invitation emails, make sure the hyperlink is formatted correctly:

Important Note: Avoid directly copy-pasting the word "HERE," as this can introduce errors.

  1. Click on the word "HERE" where you've inserted the hyperlink.

  2. Ensure the link contains only the campaign specific merge field (e.g., {{application_link}}) without extra text, formatting errors, or spaces.
