How to set up Stream to track creator posts

Monitor hashtags, mentions, and creator content across platforms and measure campaign performance

Stream gives you two ways to monitor creator content:

  1. Analyze campaign results: Track posts and performance metrics for creators running a specific campaign.

  2. Benchmark hashtag trends: Monitor hashtags, keywords, and brand mentions across the Upfluence database to inform upcoming campaigns.

Here's a helpful video about the Stream:

Content tab vs Stream: what's the difference?

Both features track creator posts, but they're scoped differently.

Content tab (campaign users only): focused on creators added to a specific campaign. Tracks their posts, hashtags, mentions, and performance metrics.

Stream: monitors creators across the Upfluence database, not limited to a specific campaign. Useful for broader benchmarking and cross-campaign monitoring.

1. Setting up a Stream

  1. Go to the Stream tool and click the "+" button from the dropdown menu.

  2. Choose a name to easily identify the Stream later.

  3. Pick your tracking targets:

    • Select "All" to monitor all creators in the Upfluence database.

    • Select "Selection" to monitor specific creators by adding a list. Upfluence will track only these creators’ posts.

  4. Select platforms to track:

    • Choose Any to collect content across all platforms.

    • Or pick one or more: Instagram, Instagram Story, TikTok, YouTube, X, Pinterest, Twitch, or blogs.

Note: Instagram Stories are tracked separately from regular Instagram posts. To track Stories, creators need to connect their professional Instagram accounts to Upfluence. See How to invite creators to connect their Instagram accounts.

Even with a valid connection and the right keywords, two Story types can't be tracked automatically:

      • Reshared Stories

      • Q&A answer Stories

This is a platform-level limitation, not a tagging or setup issue. If a creator posts either of these, the only option is a manual upload.

  5. Define your keywords. Enter the hashtags, mentions, or keywords you want to track. For example:

    • To track #Running, select Hashtag as the field type and enter Running.

    • To track @mybrand, select Mention and enter mybrand.

Note: Creators must include the exact keywords, hashtags, or mentions in their captions for the Stream tool to track their posts.

  6. Set a tracking duration that aligns with your campaign timeline.

  7. Enter your CPM (Cost Per Mille) and campaign expenses. Stream will use these to calculate your ROI automatically.

  8. Click Save, then Start Recording to begin tracking. Data can take anywhere from a few hours to 4 days to appear.

2. The Stream report

Once the Stream is running and creators publish posts containing your keywords, those posts will appear in the Stream report automatically. Allow up to 4 days for posts to show up.

3. Troubleshooting:

If posts still aren't showing up after 4 days, see: Why a creator's post isn't showing up in the Stream or Content tab

FAQs

1. How far back can you pull content for the Stream?

  • Maximum content retrieval:

    • Content can be pulled from the last 6 months, within the most recent 100 publications of the creator.

  • Important conditions:

    • The creator must have been in the database before the Stream was created.

    • For example, if an creator was added on July 1st, only the last 9 posts before July 1st will be available, along with all subsequent posts.

  • Data updates:

    • Only posts published within the last 90 days and among the creator's last 100 publications will have updated engagement data.

2. What does "content" for Twitch or YouTube mean when setting up a Stream?

  • Twitch: Tracks keywords in the stream title, tags, or game being played.

  • YouTube: Tracks keywords in the video description.

3. What's the difference between the stream tool and content in a campaign?

  • Content Tab: Tracks creators added to a specific campaign.

  • Stream Tool: Tracks all creators in the Upfluence database based on your criteria, not limited to specific campaigns.

4. Can I capture posts made before the Stream or campaign setup?

Yes, posts made before the Stream or campaign setup can be captured, but:

  • Content can be pulled from the last 6 months or last 100 publications.

  • Conditions: The creator must have been in the database before the Stream was created.

5. How can I use a Stream to calculate my campaign ROI?

To calculate your campaign ROI using a stream, follow these steps:

  1. Set a CPM: Define the Cost Per Thousand Impressions (CPM) for your brand.

  1. Input Campaign Expenses: Enter the total amount spent on all publications.

  2. ROI Calculation: Use this formula:

    • ROI = ((EMV - Campaign Expenses) / Campaign Expenses) * 100

If your ROI is above 0, it indicates a successful campaign outcome, meaning that the engagement and impressions generated exceed the budget you allocated.

6. What does the location refer to when I set up a stream?

The location refers to the creator's country if specified. If not, it will use the geolocation of the post (available for Instagram posts).

7. Is it possible to remove an end date from a Stream that's already been running?

Yes, you can remove the end date by going to the Stream settings and updating the Tracking period section.

8. Is it possible to set up a stream without using keywords?

Yes, you can create a Stream without keywords from Community table view. However, this will pull all creator content (within the last 90 days and their last 100 posts), not just brand-specific content.
