Why a creator's post isn't showing up in the Stream or Content tab

A rundown of the most common reasons posts go missing and what to check for each one

When a creator's post isn't showing up in your Stream or Content tab, it's usually down to platform restrictions, visibility settings, or how your Stream is configured. Here's what to check.

1. The post is too recent

Posts may take 1 to 4 days to appear in the Stream, depending on:

  • The platform (some update more frequently than others)

  • The creator's activity level

  • Whether the post has been re-imported

2. The post isn’t public or includes restricted content

Upfluence can only access public content. If a platform has hidden or removed a post for violating its community guidelines or restricted it based on the nature of the content, that post won't be accessible.

A. Platform restrictions (especially Instagram)

Instagram may restrict access to posts involving:

  • Regulated industry content:

    • Alcohol

    • Tobacco or vaping products

    • Cannabis or CBD

    • Prescription drugs or dietary supplements

    • Sexual wellness or adult content

    • Weapons or ammunition

  • Flagged or moderated content:

    • Misinformation

    • Hate speech

    • Harassment or abusive behavior

    • Explicit or violent content

B. Creator-controlled visibility

Some creators limit their content visibility to followers or specific age groups.

🕵️ How to check if a post is public:

Instagram:

  1. Open the post in an incognito browser window (without logging in to Instagram).

  2. If the post or profile doesn’t display, it’s restricted and cannot be imported into Upfluence.

These rules are enforced by Meta, and there’s no workaround via Upfluence.

Tiktok:

  1. Visit the creator’s TikTok profile > click Share > then Embed.

  2. If the message "Profile not available" appears, that profile is restricted.

3. Your Stream filters are too narrow

When setting up your Stream:

  • Choose "Any" to collect content across all platforms

  • Select both Instagram and Story if you want to track both feed posts and Stories

  • Avoid unnecessary location filters, as not all posts include location data

4. Keywords are missing or incorrect

Upfluence only tracks posts that exactly match your defined keywords, hashtags, or mentions.

  • Typos or incorrect formatting will cause posts to be missed

  • Posts that didn't include your keywords at the time of posting can't be added manually later

5. Field types aren’t configured correctly

Double-check that you're using the correct field types for tracking (e.g., “Content,” “Mention,” “Hashtag”).

6. Tracking dates are misconfigured

By default, the Stream captures posts from the past 6 months. If you’ve set custom dates:

  • Make sure the post you’re checking falls within the date range

  • Otherwise, it won’t be included

7. Your display filters are hiding the post

Double-check the date filters in your Stream view. If they don’t match the post’s publish date, the post won’t appear, even if it’s been collected.

8. Creators weren’t in your original selection

If you selected a list when setting up the Stream:

  • Only creators on that list at that time will be tracked

  • Adding creators later? You’ll need to reselect the updated list

9. The creator isn't in the Upfluence database

We can only track creators present in the database. To check:

  • Use the Upfluence Chrome Plugin

  • If they’re missing, click “Add Influencer” to include them

10. The creator's Instagram account isn't connected (Stories only)

Instagram Stories are private data, so Upfluence can only collect them if the creator has:

  • Connected their Instagram account to Upfluence

  • Maintained that connection (if it expires, it needs to be reconnected)

No connection = no Stories.

11. The Story has expired

Stories disappear after 24 hours, and once they’re gone, they can’t be automatically collected, unless your creators manually upload it to their creator account.

12. Two Story types that can't be tracked automatically

Even with a valid connection and the right keywords, two Story types aren't available through automatic tracking:

  • Reshared Stories

  • Q&A answer Stories

This is a platform-level limitation, it's not related to how the Story was tagged or set up. If a creator posts either of these, the only way to capture it is through a manual upload.

13. X (Twitter) posts are no longer public

Due to X's changes, some X posts are no longer public, which prevents automatic collection. You can still manually import individual X posts by using their URLs.

Final tip: Give the system time

Not all of these reasons may apply depending on your stream settings and campaign goals. After making updates or changes, allow 1–2 hours for the system to refresh and start collecting relevant content.
