Follow along with our video walk through below or keep scrolling to reference our written Step-By-Step guide!

Step 1: Set up search keywords

Keywords help you find influencers whose content matches your brand's interests.

These can include:

  • Words, hashtags, or mentions that should appear in their content

  • Exclusions for words you don’t want associated with your influencers

How to add keywords:

Simply type your keywords in the search bar and press Enter after each entry.

Best practices:

👍 Specific Creator: Prefix it with '@' to display the account with this handle at the top of your search results.

👍 Hashtags: Use the '#' symbol to find creators who have used them in their content during the past 90 days. If you need ideal hashtags, check out this website our team likes!

👍 Search by Relevant Keywords: Use keywords that your ideal creators are likely to use in their content rather than keywords that describe your ideal influencer. Currently, you cannot filter influencers by categories, but this feature is continuously evolving.

Keyword conditions:

  • "Should": Keywords can be mentioned or not, effectively functioning as "or".

    For example:

If you add "coffee" and "tea" as keywords and select "Should" for both, your search results will display influencers that mention "coffee" OR "tea."

  • Must”: Keywords must be mentioned.

    For example:

If you want to find influencers who drink lattes but are vegan, add the keyword "vegan" and select "Must" for it. Then, add keywords like "coffee" and "latte" set as "should."

  • Must Not”: Keywords that should not be mentioned. This is useful for excluding specific keywords or influencers associated with certain activities, brands or trends.

    For example:

If you want to avoid influencers who mention "sugar", you can input "sugar" and select "must not" to exclude them from your search results.

Match keywords in specific areas:

You can filter keywords based on where they appear. (e.g., username, instagram handle, Instagram biography, Instagram content, etc).

For example:

If you are looking for family influencers, you can add the keywords "mom" and "dad" and select Instagram bio.

Step 2: Set social media filters

Choose the social media platform where you want to find influencers and define criteria like:

  • Followers: Minimum and maximum follower count.

  • Min. Avg Engagement: How engaged the community is with the influencer.

  • Min. Followers Growth Rate: Based on the last 90 days, you can set a minimum followers, subscribers, or fans growth rate.

  • Min. Engagement Growth Rate: Based on the last 90 days, you can set a minimum engagement growth rate

  • Last Activity: The last time the influencer was active.

Filter creators across platforms using AND/OR:

  • OR: Expands your search to include influencers who meet the criteria on at least one of the selected platforms. (E.g., an influencer may meet engagement criteria on Instagram or TikTok.)

  • AND: Narrows your search to show influencers who meet the criteria on all selected platforms. (E.g., an influencer must meet engagement criteria on both Instagram and TikTok.)

Step 3: Apply additional filters

Narrow your search further by refining the creator profile, audience, or existing lists.

1. Filter by Creator:

  • Show only creators with emails: Influencers who have an email (recommended for contacting through Upfluence).

  • Include brand accounts: Only see profiles tagged as creators or if you want to see brand profiles.

  • Creator was added: When the influencer was last added to their feed.

  • Creator country: The country the influencer is based in.

  • Creator geolocation: Recent locations of the influencer (useful for events or pop-up shops). Check Understanding our localization system

  • Language: The language of the influencer’s content.

  • Creator gender: The gender of influencers.

  • Creator age: The age range of influencers.

3. Filter by lists

  • List to exclude: Exclude an existing list from your search results. (This is a great filter if you don’t want to find the same influencers twice).

  • List to include: Search within an existing list.

  • When you select a list to exclude, it excludes both the influencers got selected and rejected when you built your list.

  • The archived Lists are not excluded from your search result.

Best Practices:

To make the most out of Upfluence's Search app, here are some best practices to consider.

Frequently asked questions:

1. How can I find my search history and saved searches?

Click on "Find creators" to access your search history.

2. How can I search for a specific influencer?

  • Using the Search app: Type @ followed by the influencer’s handle to prioritize their account at the top of search results.

  • Using the Upfluence Chrome Extension:

    1. Open the influencer's social media profile.

    2. Open the Upfluence extension.

    3. If the influencer exists in our database, you can review their profile. If not, adding them will include them in your community.

3. How can I find and add influencers with just their email (no social media URL)?

  • If it's a single influencer, you can manually search for their social media profile and add them via the Chrome Plugin.

  • If you have a list of emails but no URLs, Live Capture is an alternative. However, influencers without a matching email in our database will not be added.

4. How do I exclude influencers from future search results?

  • If an influencer is rejected from a list, they will still appear in new searches.

  • To permanently exclude them, use the "Exclude lists" filter when searching. This removes all influencers (accepted and rejected) from that list in future results.

5. Can I search for influencers based on their last activity?

  • Yes, the "Last activity" metric refers to the most recent time an influencer posted content on their social media.

6. How does keyword search work?

  • Searches analyze post content from the last 90 days.

  • For YouTube, searches include video descriptions.

7. Do searches include comments?

  • No, influencer comments on other accounts are not included.

  • No, follower comments on an influencer’s posts are not included (GDPR compliance).

8. If I select "Has a blog" in search filters, which platforms are included?

This filter includes all types of blogs, regardless of the platform.

9. How can I find influencers aged 60+?

Adjust the search age bracket to "35-54" and add the keyword "60+".

10. How does Upfluence obtain influencer emails?

  • Manual Addition: You can add an email manually to an influencer’s profile. This email will be private to your team.

Yes, you can:

  • Add an "Agent email" to contact the influencer via multiple email addresses.

  • Upfluence tracks active engagement (likes, comments, shares) rather than total followers.

  • Instagram’s analytics include all followers, even those who don’t engage.

16. How does Upfluence calculate "Engaged Audience Real %"?

Upfluence flags fake accounts based on:

  1. Accounts that follow many but have few followers themselves.

17. How often is influencer data updated?

Updates occur every 1 to 10 days, depending on:

  • Platform activity (some platforms update more frequently).

  • Influencer engagement (active influencers are updated more often).

  • User monitoring (creators in active campaigns update more frequently).

  • Content re-imports (newly imported content triggers a fresh update).

18. How is "Average Engagement by Publication Time" calculated?

  • Posts are grouped by day and time of publication.

  • The average engagement rate is calculated for each group.

  • This helps identify optimal posting times.

19. Does Upfluence provide historical audience demographic data?

No, Upfluence does not track audience demographic evolution over time.

20. Do archived lists get excluded when selecting "Exclude all lists"?
