Step-by-Step Guide

I. Keywords

Keywords are words, hashtags, or mentions that you want to appear in your ideal influencer’s content. They could also be words that you don't want your influencers to use.

1️⃣ Adding Keywords:

Type your keywords directly into the bar, pressing enter after each entry for swift addition.

Best practices:

👍 Specific Creator: Prefix it with '@' to display the account with this handle at the top of your search results.

👍 Hashtags: Use the '#' symbol to find creators who have used them in their content during the past 90 days. If you need ideal hashtags, check out this website our team likes!

👍 Search by Relevant Keywords: Use keywords that your ideal creators are likely to use in their content rather than keywords that describe your ideal influencer. Currently, you cannot filter influencers by categories, but this feature is continuously evolving.

2️⃣ Criteria for Each Keyword:

✅ Condition:

✔️ "Should": Keywords can be mentioned or not, effectively functioning as "or".

For example:

If you add "coffee" and "tea" as keywords and select "Should" for both, your search results will display influencers that mention "coffee" OR "tea."

✔️ Must”: Keywords must be mentioned.

For example:

If you want to find influencers who drink lattes but are vegan, add the keyword "vegan" and select "Must" for it. Then, add keywords like "coffee" and "latte" set as "should."

✔️ Must Not”: Keywords that should not be mentioned. This is useful for excluding specific keywords or influencers associated with certain activities, brands or trends.

For example:

If you want to avoid influencers who mention "sugar", you can input "sugar" and select "must not" to exclude them from your search results.

✅ Match in:

Select where you want the keyword to be mentioned (e.g., Name, handle, biography, content, etc).

For example:

If you are looking for family influencers, you can add the keywords "mom" and "dad" and select Instagram bio.

II. Selecting social media

1️⃣ Choosing Your Preferred Social Media Platform

  1. Access the menu and choose your preferred social media platform where you want to find your influencers.

  2. Define related parameters, and they'll appear in the designated field upon closure.

2️⃣ Parameters to Define:

  1. Followers: How many followers the influencer should have.

  2. Min. Avg Engagement: How engaged the community is with the influencer.

  3. Min. Followers Growth Rate: Based on the last 90 days, you can set a minimum followers, subscribers, or fans growth rate (applicable to all social media except for blogs).

  4. Min. Engagement Growth Rate: Based on the last 90 days, you can set a minimum engagement growth rate (applicable to all social media except for Twitch and blogs).

  5. Last Activity: The last time the influencer was active.

III. More Filters

When searching for influencers, you can specify criteria such as language, country, gender, and audience profile.

✅ Filter by Creator:

  1. Show only creators with emails: Influencers who have an email (recommended for contacting through Upfluence).

  2. Include brand accounts: Only see profiles tagged as creators or if you want to see brand profiles.

  3. Creator was added: When the influencer was last added to their feed.

  4. Creator country: The country the influencer is based in.

  5. Creator geolocation: Recent locations of the influencer (useful for events or pop-up shops). Check Country and Geolocation Field in Search app: How Does It Work?

  6. Language: The language of the influencer’s content.

  7. Creator gender: The gender of influencers.

  2. List to include: Search within an existing list.

  • The Archived Lists are not excluded from your search result.

VII. Best Practices

To make the most out of Upfluence's Search app, here are some best practices to consider:

💡 Keyword selection tips:

1️⃣ Search by Trend Keywords:

Identify current trends or events relevant to your campaign.

For instance, if you're promoting a new fitness product, search for trending fitness hashtags or keywords like "#fitspo" or "#workoutchallenge" to find influencers who are actively participating in fitness trends.

2️⃣ Search by Other Product's Keywords:

Think about complementary products that your ideal influencers might use.

Example:

If you sell pet cameras, search for keywords that pet food brands use to promote their products. Influencers who are active in the pet food niche are likely to be interested in your pet camera.

3️⃣ Search in "Instagram Bio":

This is our team's favorite. Once you find your ideal influencer, dive into their Instagram bio, find commonly used keywords, then search by that keyword and set the search in "Instagram bio."

Example:

If you find an influencer with "yoga enthusiast" in their bio, you can search for "yoga" in the Instagram bio field to find similar influencers.

4️⃣ Search by Emojis:

Emojis can be a quick and effective way to filter for specific types of content.

Example:

  • For driving revenue campaigns: use 💰 💸 💵 💶 💷 💴 🤑 💳 ... to find influencers who frequently discuss money or earnings.

  • For mother and baby-related campaigns: use 👶 🍼 🤰... to find influencers who post about parenting or baby products.

  • For fitness/sport-related campaigns: use 🏋️ ⚽️ 🏂 ... to find influencers who post about workouts and fitness.

  • For travel or vacation campaigns: use ✈️ ⛱️ 🏝️ 🏖️ 🚤 to find influencers who share travel content.

👍 Be Strategic with "Must" and "Should" Keywords:

Use "Must" for only one non-negotiable keyword per search and "Should" for more flexible criteria. This helps ensure you get relevant results without being too restrictive.

Example:

For a vegan skincare campaign, set "vegan" as a "Must" keyword and "skincare," "beauty," or "natural products" as "Should" keywords.

🙅‍♀️ Avoid Overly Strict Audience Rules:

While defining your target audience is crucial, avoid setting overly strict criteria that might limit your search results unnecessarily.

Example of an Overly Strict Audience Rule: Avoid combining too many criteria such as very strict location ranges and very high engaged audience gender, which can severely limit your search results.

👍 Think Beyond Location

Location is valuable, especially if you're targeting a specific geographical area. We have good location data but sometimes influencers don’t share their more detailed location on public channels. Don't limit your search solely by "Location". Consider using keywords related to the locality you're interested in.

Example:

For a restaurant campaign in a particular city, use local keywords like the city name, university name, neighborhood, or local landmarks.

  • Finding Fashion Influencers in New York: Search for influencers who mention popular New York bars or fashion hotspots. For instance, using keywords like "Soho House" or "The Standard" could help identify influencers who frequent these trendy locations.

  • Finding Food Influencers in Paris: Search for influencers who mention iconic Parisian restaurants or cafes. Using keywords like "Café de Flore" or "Le Procope" could help you find food influencers who enjoy classic Parisian dining experiences.

  • Finding Travel Influencers in Tokyo: Use keywords related to famous landmarks or districts like "Shibuya Crossing" or "Tokyo Tower" to find influencers who are likely to post about their experiences in these popular locations.

  • Finding Lifestyle Influencers in Los Angeles: Search for influencers who mention well-known LA spots like "Rodeo Drive" or "Venice Beach." This can help you find influencers who are active in the LA lifestyle scene.

👍 Understand Language vs. Influencer's Native Language

When selecting the language filter, keep in mind that it refers to the language of the content, not necessarily the native language of the influencer. Influencers often create content in multiple languages to reach a broader audience.

Example:

If your target audience speaks English, you can choose English as the content language, even if the influencer primarily speaks another language.
