How to edit discount code settings in your e-commerce platform

Update store-only discount rules in Shopify, WooCommerce, Magento, or BigCommerce

Updated yesterday

Some discount settings are owned and enforced only by your e-commerce platform, not by Upfluence. Use your store backend when you need to change how the promotion behaves at checkout, especially rules like whether the code can be combined with other discounts, stacking rules, or other store-specific promotion constraints.

Tip: If you only need to rename the code text itself, do that in Upfluence (except BigCommerce). See Manage discount codes and tracking plans in Upfluence.

When to edit in your e-commerce platform (and when not to)

If the change you want to make isn’t part of the Upfluence-managed tracking plan settings below, you’ll want to update it in your e-commerce backend.

What Upfluence can update for an existing tracking plan:

These are the tracking plan settings you can edit from Upfluence:

  • Tracking plan name: Renames the plan so it is easier to identify

  • Discount value: Updates the discount amount used by the plan

  • Link parameters: Updates link settings, including UTM parameters when used

  • Track affiliate link clicks setting: Updates click tracking behavior

  • Code limits: Updates usage limits such as total uses and one use per customer when supported

  • Products applicable: Updates which products or categories the discount applies to when targeting is enabled

  • Validation dates: Updates the active date range for the discount when supported

What should be edited in your store backend

Use your e-commerce platform for store-owned promotion rules, such as:

  • Whether the discount code can be combined with other discount codes or automatic discounts

  • Any other checkout/promotion behavior that your platform controls (and Upfluence doesn’t list as editable above)

Track sales without offering a discount

If you want to track sales without giving a discount, you can set the discount amount to 0. Customers still need to apply the code at checkout for tracking to work.

Alternatively, consider using Upfluence AST (Agnostic Sales Tracking) to generate affiliate links without attaching discounts.

Shopify: update a code created in Upfluence

  1. In Shopify admin, go to Discounts.

  2. Search for the code created in Upfluence.

  3. Open the code and update the settings you need.

  4. Click Save.

WooCommerce: update a code created in Upfluence

  1. In WooCommerce admin, go to Marketing > Coupons.

  2. Search for the code created in Upfluence.

  3. Click Edit next to the code, update the settings, then Save.

Magento: update rules tied to a tracking plan

  1. In Magento admin, go to Marketing.

  2. Open Catalog Price Rules or Cart Price Rules.

  3. Search for the tracking plan name.

    • You can find the tracking plan name in Upfluence under Campaign Settings > Sales & activity tracking.

  4. Update the details and Save.

BigCommerce: update promotions tied to a tracking plan

  1. In BigCommerce admin, go to Marketing > Promotions > Coupons.

  2. Search for the tracking plan name created in Upfluence.

  3. Update the details and click Update promotion.

BigCommerce note: Discount codes may not be shown individually in the BigCommerce UI, but they still work in your store. If you need to view every code in a tracking plan, use the BigCommerce API (Documentation here).
