How to add UTM parameters to your tracking links

Adding UTM parameters to your Upfluence links

Updated this week

UTM parameters help you track where traffic is coming from and how your links are performing, using Google Analytics. You can add UTM tags directly to your affiliate and click tracking links in Upfluence to get deeper insights into campaign performance.

What are UTM parameters?

Here are the UTM parameters you can add in Upfluence:

  1. utm_source – Identifies the traffic source (e.g., utm_source=Upfluence)

  2. utm_medium – Identifies the type of channel (e.g., utm_medium=YouTube)

  3. utm_campaign – Identifies the campaign name or promotion (e.g., utm_campaign=SpringSale)

Once you’ve filled in your UTM details, click “Add tracking link” and Upfluence will generate your link automatically. You can then copy and share it with your influencers.

Where can I add UTM parameters?

You have two main options depending on the type of link you're generating:

1. Add UTM parameters to affiliate links (Sales tracking)

When setting up a tracking plan, you can enable UTM parameters to monitor sales attribution more accurately.

How to set it up:

  1. During tracking plan creation, toggle UTM parameters on.

  2. Fill out the source, medium, and campaign fields.

  3. Click “+ Insert variable” to personalize UTM values with influencer-specific data.

Upfluence will auto-fill the variable with values from each creator’s profile.

⚠️ Important: If a required variable (like Instagram username) is missing from an influencer’s profile, the link won’t be created. Can reach out to our support team to merge the missing info into their profile.

Pro tip: Use the same variables across both discount codes and affiliate links to keep tracking consistent.

2. Add UTM parameters to click tracking links

You can apply UTM parameters in two ways:

  • In bulk, during Campaign setup

  • Individually, from a creator’s side panel

⚠️ Note: All click tracking links in a campaign will share the same UTM values — you can’t customize them per influencer.

Can I edit UTM parameters after creating a tracking plan/link?

No, once a link is created with UTM parameters, it can’t be edited.
If you need to make changes, you’ll have to manually update the URL before sending it to your influencers.
