What are merge fields?

Merge fields are dynamic placeholders that automatically populate in your emails based on information attached to an influencer’s profile, like their name, location, or social media handle. Using merge fields makes your emails more personalized and saves you time during outreach.

This guide will show you how to create custom merge fields in the Search & List tool, so you can use them for more efficient future outreach.

1. Create new merge fields

You can create merge fields either individually on influencer profiles or in bulk using a CSV file.

Option 1: Create merge fields individually on influencer profiles

  1. Open the influencer’s profile by clicking on their name from any page.

  2. Click on Profile at the top.

  3. Scroll to the Merge Fields section and click Edit > Add merge field.

  4. Enter the name and value for the merge field (e.g., product, size, or location).

  5. Click Save to update the profile. The merge field will now be available for use in personalized emails.

Option 2: Bulk creation via CSV file

If you need to create the same merge field for multiple influencers, a CSV file will save time.

Step 1: Download your list of influencers

  • Option 1: From your List: Click Export, then select "Export selected influencer(s) to".

  • Option 2: From the Community table view: Select your creators, click Export, then choose Standard Export and select either .csv or .xlsx format.

    • Click the Export button, then select "Export selected influencer(s) to".

Step 2: Prepare the CSV file

  1. Open the exported file.

  2. Add new columns for each merge field you want to create (e.g., product, price, shoe_size).

  3. Fill in the relevant information for each influencer.

Step 3: Save and upload

  1. Save the updated file as a .csv and upload it back to Upfluence's database.

  2. Your new merge fields will now appear on influencers' profiles and be available for personalized emails.

🕒 Note: Depending on the size of your list, it may take a few minutes for the updates to process and appear.

2. Edit your merge fields

You can edit your merge fields both individually and in bulk.

Option 1: Edit merge fields from influencer profiles

  1. Open the influencer’s profile by clicking on their name.

  2. Click on the Profile tab at the top-right of the panel.

  3. From here, you can either edit existing merge fields or add new ones.

Option 2: Edit merge fields from the Community table view

  1. Click Manage Fields to display the merge fields column you’ve created.

  2. Click Add value to update any merge fields with new information.
