Updated over a week ago

Google Tag Manager allows you to easily deploy code and track pixels to your site without the need to edit the code or ask your developer to do it.

Creating a Google Tag Manager Account

This section is for those who don’t have a GTM account. Skip this section if you already have one.

  1. Visit the GTM website and use your Google login credentials (Gmail ID and Password) to get in.

  2. Next, you’ll be taken to create a new GTM account. Click on Create Account and Fill in your account information (Account name, Country, e-commerce URL). Make sure to select "Web" for your Target platform.

3. Click on ‘Create’, a pop-up window with terms and conditions will appear on the screen. Go through the text and if you have no objection to the terms click on ‘Accept.’

4. A new pop-up with two code snippets will appear. Copy the first code or leave the page open and head to your Shopify store

Adding the container code snippets to the Shopify store

Use your Shopify admin account credentials and log in to the store. The piece of code is to be positioned on your theme. liquid page.

  1. Copy the first code snippet (the one to paste in the Head section).

  2. Go to the Shopify admin page and follow this path: Online Store > Themes > Edit Code.

3. Next, click on the theme. liquid file and paste the Google Tag Manager container code you previously copied just before the </head> tag as shown in the image below.

4. Now, click ‘Save.’ Voila! It’s done.  🎉

Although it is not necessary to insert the second container code, you can paste it just below the body tag.
